How Anew works

Our residents take care of the daily house management. While doing this, women who were previously exposed to critical conditions start focusing their efforts on developing new skills that will eventually become helpful when taking a deeper care of their babies and themselves, looking for a job, or starting an independent life.

How ANEW works

Anew has two programs.

Kisakihitin – Kisakihitin, which is Cree for “I love you,” is our group care program focusing on children and youth aged 0-18 years. ANEW offers family living for siblings and cousins with a focus on the four quadrants of well-being. Our programming offers a daily focus on physical well-being and ensuring children have the opportunity to play and be active in their home and the beautiful family community where Kisakihitin is located.

Peyakoskan – Peyakoskan, which is Cree for “family,” is our family preservation program which offers 24/7 on site staffing support in order to prevent a more intrusive action. Our goal is to ensure safety and well-being of each family and their children.

Our homes provide individuals with a secure and safe living environment which is based on trauma-informed, client-centred and milieu-based therapy as well as guided by strength-based approaches. The success of the children and families in our programs are enhanced by providing routine, consistency, predictability, and opportunities for community activities. Regular bedtimes, mealtimes, chores and scheduled activities are consistent with creating stability.

Each program is adaptable and designed to address the specific needs of each participant. Support is also provided to the participant’s family in an effort to maintain or enhance existing relationships that are considered natural supports to the participant. Relationships and healthy connections in the participant’s community are valued and supported. Participants are also supported and encouraged to stay engaged in existing recreational activities, faith groups, cultural activities, etc. If participants are not currently engaged in these opportunities, our staff will work with each participant to find opportunities of interest to them.
